Assault rifle M 16 recovered after alleged shootout involving police and shooters in August Town

An assault rifle M 16 was recovered in August Town, St Andrew, today, after an alleged shootout between police and shooters.

Police are said to have conducted an intelligence-led operation at noon, checking caves in the area when they came under fire.

Fire was returned and, during a search of the area, the high-powered weapon was reportedly found.

Police sources say that a man fled the area; however, they do not believe he was injured.

The Independent Investigations Commission has been informed about the incident.
